The wall-mounted split unit is by far the most common type installed in homes and small commercial premises. It is compact, quiet, efficient and relatively straightforward to install. For commercial premises with suspended ceilings, ceiling cassette units are the most popular choice.
A fully concealed ducted system with slim ceiling diffusers is the most discreet — the indoor unit is completely hidden above the ceiling. Slim duct units are a more cost-effective alternative with only a small low-profile grille visible. Cassette units offer a good balance between discretion and cost in commercial environments.
Yes — all new domestic and commercial air conditioning units sold in the UK are now inverter type. Fixed-speed compressor units are no longer manufactured for this market. Inverter technology is significantly more efficient and provides more precise temperature control.
Most new units now use R32 refrigerant, which has replaced R410A in the majority of new products. R32 has a lower global warming potential (GWP) than R410A and is slightly more efficient. Some older and larger commercial systems still use R410A but this refrigerant is being phased down under F-Gas regulations.
